Australia and Qatar have refused to participate in the Copa America tournament, which is scheduled to take place next summer. This was announced by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL).
The race was scheduled for 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Australia and Qatar were supposed to join the ten South American teams, but their participation failed due to restrictions on international travel during the pandemic.
CONMEBOL Secretary General Gonzalo Belloso said an attempt would be made to invite two other guest teams, replacing Qatar and Australia. If this proves impossible, then the Copa America will be held with 10 teams, not 12.
